Learn Reiki - the Gentle, Safe, Natural Healing Art

We're offering Reiki 1 and 2 classes this winter at Hudson Healing Arts in Hoboken, New Jersey.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a natural healing art that can be practiced on oneself or others, using only a light touch or near touch, to work with the universal life force energy known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Qi or Chi, and in Japanese as Ki. The Japanese words Rei-ki are translated as "spiritual energy." Usui Mikao, who in 1920 founded the practice we know today as Reiki, was the first to put together the syllables "rei" and "ki" to describe the spiritual energy we work with in Reiki. A Japanese Buddhist lay monk, Usui was influenced not only by Buddhism, but by Shinto, Shugendo, martial arts, and indigenous shamanic traditions. After Usui's death in 1926, his students quietly kept the practice alive in Japan. One of those students, Dr. Hayashi Chujiro, later taught a Japanese-American, Hawayo Takata, who brought the practice to her native Hawaii and from there to the rest of the world. For decades, Western Reiki practitioners believed that Reiki was no longer practiced in Japan, but in the late 20th Century, Western and Eastern Reiki were reunited, with practitioners of both forms surprised at the differences between the two forms.

Healing Movement's program is based on the traditional Japanese practice, as close as possible to Usui's original teachings.

How can it help?

Reiki can help reduce stress, relieve pain, balance emotions, and enhance mental clarity. Reiki supports the body's natural healing process, and it can also facilitate personal and spiritual growth. Healing can take place on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level.

Note: While Reiki can help support the healing process, it is not a substitute for medical care.
